01
Confirm the date and what it applies to
ZDHC’s Supplier to Zero Version 2 transition runs from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027, with mandatory implementation under the programme from 1 February 2027. A mill preparing for assessment should confirm its facility scope, read the current V2 manual and assign responsibility for the evidence it needs.
ZDHC published V2 on 31 July and announced it on 6 August 2026. Those are different dates from the implementation date. The announcement establishes a programme timeline; it does not, by itself, establish a new Bangladesh legal deadline. Confirm the requirements relevant to your facility and customers rather than treating a headline as a complete applicability decision.
02
Separate performance from assessment confidence
ZDHC explains that the three V2 levels represent the facility’s chemical-management performance. The assessment-confidence routes are described separately: self-assessment, third-party desktop review and third-party on-site review. Avoid assuming that a level number alone tells a customer how the assessment was checked.
The programme covers chemical management across input, process and output, including upstream practices. A file of product documents therefore addresses only part of the facility’s preparation. Ask which operating practices the evidence demonstrates, who maintains those practices and how the records can be traced.
03
Create an evidence register with a named owner
For a Bangladesh dyeing, finishing or washing facility, we suggest a short register shared by the chemical-management lead, purchasing, production and the relevant environmental team. This is Straits’ preparation method, not an official assessment template or a complete list of V2 requirements.
Use one row per applicable requirement after reviewing the current manual. Keep six fields: requirement reference; current practice; evidence location; accountable owner; unresolved gap; and target completion date. Mark an item unsupported when you cannot locate the evidence. An optimistic status label cannot substitute for a record.
- Input owner: identify where purchasing, chemical identity and inventory evidence is maintained.
- Process owner: identify the records that demonstrate the relevant practice actually operates.
- Output owner: identify the applicable reporting evidence and who checks its scope and period.
- Assessment coordinator: record the manual version, facility profile and next review date so everyone works from the same basis.
04
Check changes before reusing an old checklist
ZDHC’s change log records August 2026 revisions across input, process and output guidance. For example, the chemical-traceability update describes stock management using expiry date and/or purchase date. The chemical-management-strategy entry describes consolidation of requirements. These changes are a reason to compare references rather than copy an old checklist unchanged.
Our suggested review asks whether each old checklist item still points to the current requirement, whether evidence has moved between teams, and whether a document shows today’s practice. Do not delete useful operational records simply because the framework’s wording or structure changed. Resolve uncertainty using the current manual and relevant programme guidance.
05
Work backwards from the assessment
Set your own internal dates early enough to correct gaps before the relevant assessment. A practical sequence is to confirm scope and references, collect evidence, test a sample of records with the people responsible, and then resolve exceptions. The time each step needs depends on the facility; the sequence below does not create official intermediate deadlines.
Consider an illustrative gap: purchasing has a current chemical list, but the person preparing the assessment cannot establish which facility or reporting period the supporting records cover. Assign an owner to reconcile the scope and period, document the result and check a sample again. Simply collecting more files would not resolve that particular problem.
06
Keep the commercial discussion precise
A facility’s Supplier to Zero preparation and a chemical product’s supporting evidence answer different questions. When approaching a chemical supplier, identify the exact product, document or traceability gap you need help resolving. Keep the facility’s assessment decisions with the people responsible for that process.
For a discussion with Straits, bring the intended application, the unresolved purchasing evidence and your timing. That lets the conversation focus on the production or supply requirement. This article does not claim that Straits provides ZDHC certification or assessment services.
